Mille Lacs Lake camping

I have never been to Mille Lacs lake in the summer. Only winter for ice fishing. I just pretty much saw the inside of a bar, or the inside of the ice fishing house. Plus, the frozen ice and snow. So it was nice seeing it in the summer.

We stayed at a winery Hipcamp in Isle MN about a 1 hour and 40 minute drive from home. It was a last minute camping Saturday decision that we made Friday night while out at Union 32. Steve didn't really want to go anywhere and certainly didn't want to go to Sauk. I still wanted to go somewhere instead of sitting at home. If the weather is good, I wanted to go! Friday on and off all day and evening it rained, so we had Zero plans due to the forecast. The plan was to go to Lanesboro for biking/Kayaking along the root river if the weather was good. It wasn't. They had rain all weekend down south of us.

It was a quiet organic winery with a small lake or pond. The guy stocked it with fish and provided a boat and fishing poles. He also came out with the tractor and fed the fish.

We had a nice camping spot right next to the water with a picnic table and fire ring.
The weather was perfect in the 70's, but the sun was out and made it feel much warmer.
Was a little chilly at night, 45 but warmed up quickly in the morning, so we were hot!

We had a picnic lunch after setting up the big 3 room tent. We brought the 3 room tent instead of our dark tent due to it being set up in the back yard and wet from Friday's rain. I wanted a dry tent and a big tent. It was a good decision because the sun warmed up the inside of the tent quick.

The old barn turned into a wine sampling room.

Really private pretty camping area. Only one other camper far from us on the other side.

Grapes at the winery

The sunset was amazing

Nice fire with wood provided or enough to gather around the area.

We checked out the state park on Mille lacs lake too
Went to the casino did some gambling and won back my $20. Had dinner lake side and stopped in the cute town of Isle for pizza.

I forgot the air mattress so we had to purchase a new one single layer at the local hardware store. Not cheap at $40! Well worth the expense so we didn't have to sleep on the ground! We'll just add it to our air mattress collection! In all a great trip!
